The use of medical marijuana by patients with severe and chronic illnesses may in some cases have a better outcome than manufactured medicine, which often has adverse side effects. The Rohrabacher–Farr amendment passed into law by Congress helps protect many patients from federal prosecution who are following state medical cannabis laws.

Qualifying Conditions & Symptoms

Certain medical conditions qualify patients to be certified for medical marijuana, depending on the state. To apply for a medical marijuana card and enjoy its benefits, you should have one or more qualifying medical conditions. A prescription that allows a patient to legally obtain, possess, and use medical marijuana according to the state is commonly known as a “med card”, “certification”, or “recommendation”. MAINE

It used to be that Maine had a limited list of conditions that qualified for medical marijuana. Then in December 2018, a new Maine law went into effect that let healthcare providers recommend medical marijuana to patients for most medical conditions the provider deemed suitable, including difficulty sleeping, anxiety, depression, and more.

MARYLAND

  • Pain (chronic or severe)
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Glaucoma
  • Nausea
  • PTSD
  • Wasting Syndrome
  • Anorexia
  • Seizures
  • Another chronic medical condition which is severe and for which other treatments have been ineffective

MISSOURI

Per Article XIV of the Missouri Constitution, a qualifying medical condition is:

  • Cancer
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • Intractable migraines unresponsive to other treatment
  • A chronic medical condition that causes severe, persistent pain or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s syndrome
  • Debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder if diagnosed by a state-licensed psychiatrist
  • Human immunodeficiency virus or acquired immune deficiency syndrome
  • A chronic medical condition that is usually treated with a prescription medication that could lead to physical or psychological dependence, when a physician determines that medical use of marijuana could be useful in treating that condition and would serve as a safer alternative to the prescription medication
  • A terminal illness
  • In the professional judgment of a physician, any other chronic, debilitating or other medical condition, including, but not limited to, hepatitis C,
  • amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, Huntington’s disease, autism, neuropathies, sickle cell anemia, agitation of Alzheimer’s disease, cachexia, and wasting syndrome.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA WITHOUT MEDICAL RECORDS

When trying to get a medical marijuana card, it will help if you could provide medical records as proof that you have or were previously diagnosed with the condition. Medical records raise the probability that you will be approved.
