Montana – FAQ

To qualify for a Montana medical marijuana card, you must:

• Be a Montana resident.
• Have a debilitating medical condition recognized by Montana law.
• Obtain a Physician’s Statement from a Montana-licensed MD or DO who serves as your treating or referral physician.

Patients under 18 may also qualify through a custodial parent or legal guardian with responsibility for health care decisions. A minor application generally requires certification from 2 physicians unless the treating or referral physician is an oncologist, neurologist, or epileptologist.

The qualifying conditions for a medical marijuana card in Montana include:

• A central nervous system disorder resulting in chronic, painful spasticity or muscle spasms
• Admittance into hospice care
• Cachexia or wasting syndrome
• Cancer
• Crohn’s disease
• Epilepsy or an intractable seizure disorder
• Glaucoma
• HIV/AIDS
• Intractable nausea or vomiting
• Multiple sclerosis
• Painful peripheral neuropathy
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
• Severe chronic pain

Follow the steps below to get certified for medical marijuana with Quick Med Cards:

2. Book your appointment with one of our Montana medical marijuana doctors.
3. Attend your virtual consultation over a video call.
4. Get your certification after the doctor’s approval.

No. Having one or more qualifying conditions does not guarantee approval. A Montana cannabis doctor must evaluate your condition and determine whether you meet the state’s requirements for medical marijuana. 

If the physician determines that you have a qualifying debilitating medical condition and are likely to benefit from marijuana, they can complete the required Physician’s Statement for your application.

Yes. Once you book your appointment, we’ll send you a secure link for your video call when the consultation time approaches. You’ll meet with your physician to discuss how medical cannabis could benefit your health–this generally takes 10-15 minutes. After your doctor approves, you’ll receive your certification via email. It’ll also be available from your Quick Med Cards dashboard.

Getting your certification is just step one of getting your Montana medical marijuana card. Next, you must complete your application on Montana’s Medical Marijuana Registry.

The Montana Department of Revenue must approve or deny your complete application within 30 days. If approved, the department will issue your permanent medical marijuana card within 5 days. 

You can download and print your temporary card after submitting your application, and it remains valid for 60 days while you wait for your permanent card.

Your medical card will be valid for 1 year.

You can request a replacement card from your patient account on the Montana Medical Marijuana Registry. The cost is $10.

Yes. In addition to the doctor consultation and certification fee of $149, you must pay a $20 state application fee for your Montana medical marijuana card.
