Pennsylvania – Patient FAQ

Getting your Pennsylvania medical marijuana certification involves a few simple steps:

• Register for Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Program and create your patient profile.
• Fill out our form and schedule your appointment.
• Speak with a medical marijuana provider and get certified if you qualify.
• Complete the remaining steps in the Pennsylvania patient portal and pay the required state fee.
• Receive your medical marijuana ID card by mail at the address listed in your patient profile.

Once you receive your card, you can use it to purchase medical marijuana from a licensed Pennsylvania dispensary.

After your doctor certifies you, you must pay the required annual ID card fee through the patient portal. Your card will be printed within 7 days after payment and mailed to the address listed in your Patient Profile. 

Allow up to 14 days for delivery. Make sure your address is current before completing your payment. 

Once the doctor certifies you in the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Registry, you will receive an email with instructions to complete your registration. Log in to the patient portal, complete any required steps, and pay the medical marijuana ID card fee. 

Your card will then be printed and mailed to the address listed in your Patient Profile.

Your Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card is valid for 1 year. You will receive an email 60 days before your card and certification expire with instructions to obtain a new certification.

 To request a replacement card, log in to your Registry Patient Profile and submit a replacement card request.

The replacement fee is $25 for the first replacement and $50 for subsequent replacements. 

To participate in Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Program, you must:

• Be a Pennsylvania resident.
• Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license or Pennsylvania state-issued ID showing your current address.
• Have a working email address.
• Have at least 1 approved serious medical condition.
• Be certified by a physician approved to participate in the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program.

Pennsylvania also permits qualifying patients under age 18 to participate through a registered caregiver.

The qualifying conditions for a medical marijuana card in Pennsylvania include:

• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
• Anxiety disorders
• Autism
• Cancer, including remission therapy
• Chronic Hepatitis C
• Crohn’s disease
• Neurological damage with intractable spasticity and neuropathies
• Dyskinetic and spastic movement disorders
• Epilepsy
• Glaucoma
• HIV/AIDS
• Huntington’s disease
• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Intractable seizures
• Multiple sclerosis
• Neurodegenerative diseases
• Neuropathies
• Opioid use disorder unresponsive to conventional treatments
• Parkinson’s disease
• Post-traumatic stress disorder
• Severe chronic or intractable pain
• Sickle cell anemia
• Terminal illness
• Tourette syndrome

Having one or more qualifying conditions does not guarantee that you will receive a medical marijuana certification. Your physician must determine that you have a qualifying condition and that medical marijuana may provide therapeutic or palliative benefit. 

The Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card fee is $50 per year. If you are enrolled in Medicaid, PACE/PACENET, CHIP, SNAP, or WIC, you may qualify for a no-cost medical marijuana ID card.
